Ceramic – Ceramic is a generic term. It applies to products made of clay, then glazed and fired at high temperatures. The term ceramic applies to products made of clay. Both porcelain and ceramic are technically ceramic terms.

Porcelain – Porcelain differs from ironstone (stoneware in that it has finer clay and kaolin, which is conducive to imprinting). It is a hard, fine-grained, non-porous, white ceramic ware, fired at high temperatures. The inherent nature of porcelain usually limits its coloration to white. Porcelain is thinner walled than ironstone (stoneware) and accordingly is lighter, more delicate looking and has a whiter appearance than ceramic. Porcelain is well vitrified. Note the porcelains and stoneware products depicted in our catalog are not deemed acceptable for restaurant use with repeated dishwashing in heavy commercial dishwashers.

Ironstone or Stoneware – Stoneware is ceramic. Stoneware has less finer clay than porcelain, but maintains its quality. Ironstone may be glazed with colors (including a white glaze). Clear glazed ironstone (stoneware) appears more off-white as opposed to porcelain. Stoneware is fired at high temperatures and is well vitrified and non-porous.

Durability – Ceramic mugs are fired at up to 1200º F, making the imprint safe and long-lasting with reasonable home or office use. Avoid the use of commercial detergents and abrasive cleaners which can damage any imprint.

Air Shipments – If we are instructed to ship via Air, we must have written permission to do so. No air shipments will be made unless confirmed by letter or fax.

Artwork – To assure prompt processing of your order, submitted artwork must have complete and specific instructions as to layout, size, typestyle and placement. Our policy is to size all artwork to fit the listed maximum imprinted areas for our products, unless otherwise specified. Submitting artwork that is not properly sized will delay the processing of your order until we have your clarification. If the artwork is not cameraready and sized, extra art charges, on a time required basis, at a rate of $43.75 (G) per hour will be incurred. Providing camera-ready art will not reduce screen charges. We reserve the right to determine what is camera-ready artwork.

(A) Just a reminder that if artwork is to be returned after use, please specify this on the purchase order and place identification on the artwork as to where the artwork should be returned and the method of requested return. The customer shall hold Modern China Co., Inc., harmless from any and all loss, cost, expense and damages to submitted artwork.
(B) Be advised that due to the shape, radius or taper of some of our products, the artwork will be altered in appearance from artwork submitted. (For example: brandy snifters, travel mugs and pilsners.)
(C) Some of our glassware products have seams opposite the handle and we do not recommend wraparound imprints.
(D) When requesting a direct screen imprint, the D.P.I should be 45 to 55.
(E) Acetates, film positive, screens and other preparatory materials produced by Modern China Co., Inc. remain the exclusive property of Modern China Co., Inc.
Guidelines for Computer Generated Artwork
1. To be compatible with our art department and our computers, we suggest the following programs: IBM, Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw 7.
2. When sending art, tell us in which program the artwork was created.
3. Send the fonts that were used for the artwork, unless outlines were created for the fonts.
4. Send a hard copy.

If you want to send us your artwork on a disk, we can accept the following type: 3 1/2” floppy disk.
Our goal is to render the best end product for your satisfaction. Help us by following these guidelines.

Screen Pattern Chart Ceramic Colors - Monitors Vary

Artwork – Handled Items – Screen imprinting begins and ends 1” from the handle on both sides. If you require a wraparound imprint, we can get closer to the handle by use of a decal. However, you must request a decal if you require a tighter fit. When ordering handled items, please refer to the area you want the design placed as either:

Artwork – Non-Handled Items – Imprinting multiple colors on non-handled items or hand cast items may require the use of a decal. Complete decal transfer information and pricing is listed for every item.

Below Minimum Quantities – When ordering less than minimum quantities, a $40.00(G) set-up charge is issued. Normal art and screen charges apply.

Colors – We use standard ceramic colors. They are fired on at temperatures of 1050-1100 degrees Fahrenheit, fusing the color for lasting permanence. Real Gold is not a ceramic color and can wear off with use. We do not recommend the use of this precious metal if you require lasting imprint permanence. We have most of the standard colors in stock. However, we cannot always match colors submitted by customers.

PMS Color Match – Not guaranteed, $25.00 (X)

Complaints – Must be made within 15 days after receipt of the shipment. Shipments returned without our authorization will be refused.

Co-op Orders – Special pricing is available for co-op programs. We base the pricing on the total usage quantity anticipated over the length of the co-op program. Co-op orders must be within the established minimum order quantities of 144 pieces per copy change. Change of copy – $25.00 (G) must be in one color only and is limited to 4 lines of straight line copy. Each co-op release or split shipment, after the first, incurs a $5.00 (G) release or split shipping charge. Details with regard to warehousing, drop shipping, additional color imprints, and additional packaging must have prior written approval. We require proper documentation for the co-op program.

Copy – Be explicit when giving details as to copy and placement of copy. Make sure all words are spelled correctly and neatly printed or typed. Type style requests will be matched as closely as possible, using our existing stock types. Exact duplication of the type style cannot be guaranteed. When ordering a multi-colored item make sure you specify arrangement of colors. Please furnish the best possible copy of your emblem or special design. Preferably black on white. If the reference material submitted to us is not satisfactory for reproduction, your project could be delayed and additional art charges may have to be included. Remember, the higher the reproductive quality of reference material, the better the finished product will be.

Copy Change – Add $25.00 (G) per change of copy. The change must be in one color only, and is limited to four lines of type.

Decals – Should tight registration require the use of a decal, it is an upcharge to normal pricing and requires additional lead times for your order. Decal orders are subject to an overrun or underrun of up to 5%. The minimum order for decals is 144 pieces. The minimum order for 4-color process decals is 576 pieces. Less than minimums are not available for decal.

Delivery and Normal Shipping Time – We will always endeavor to allow ample time for transportation. Delivery time, however, cannot be guaranteed since we have no control over carriers. We normally ship within three weeks after receipt of reorders. Multi-color designs normally ship 5 to 6 weeks. One or two color direct screen normally ship 2 to 3 weeks.

Drop Shipping or Split Shipping Charges – There is a $7.50 (G) charge for each drop shipment or split shipment after the first.

Freight Charges – Shipments are sent FOB shipping point, freight prepaid unless otherwise requested. Modern China Co., Inc. shipping charges are then added to your invoice. We reserve the right to ship any order by the method we determine as the most efficient manner. Please note that if “BEST WAY” is indicated on the purchase order that this leaves the shipping method to our discretion. “BEST WAY” does not mean cheapest. It means the best method to get your order to you on time and intact. If you desire an economical method, please indicate a specific carrier for your particular order. If you would like air freight, we recommend obtaining a quote for your order before sending your purchase order, or ask us to do it for you. Only UPS Red or Federal Express is Guaranteed delivery before noon. We are not responsible for the accuracy of estimated freight charges. Just a reminder, freight estimates will vary, contingent upon any over or underruns. Modern China Co., Inc. reserves the right to submit additional freight billing(s) from carriers within 45 days after the original invoice is sent, due to delayed invoicing from the carriers as a result of interlining between carriers and international shipments or where miscellaneous charges are incurred for brokerage fees, freight surcharges, inside delivery charges, etc. and are tendered by the carrier after the first invoice. UPS & RPS charges include handling.

Freight Claims, Breakage and Shortage – Title to the goods passes to the buyer at the F.O.B. point or upon mailing of the invoices for finished work, whichever occurs first. We do not insure on-time delivery or safe carriage of goods. Recourse possession of the goods relating to the claim, as all carriers reserve the right of inspection. Please make sure that you sign for the correct carton count. The minimum order to replace breakage is 36 pieces. UPS/RPS claims should be reported to Modern China within 15 days from receipt of the shipment. UPS/RPS will pay up to $100.00 per carton. Anything over $100.00 will not be paid unless additional insurance has been purchased on the carton. All goods shipped via common carrier are shipped at the buyer’s risk and all claims must be made against the carrier. Claims must be filed with the carrier within 15 days from receipt of the shipment. Unless otherwise requested, all glassware will be shipped at a release value not to exceed $.90 per lb. Any claims paid by the transportation company would be based upon this value. Parcel Post shipments cannot be tracked and must be insured to file a breakage claim.

Packaging – To ensure safer delivery for U.P.S., Fed Ex, and U.S. Postal shipments, extra packaging is necessary and a charge of $3.60(G) per carton will be added.

22K Gold – Please specify on your order the type of gold imprint desired. We offer 22K gold and a variety of ceramic non-metallic gold colors. Simply requesting “gold” may cause your order to be delayed. Be specific when ordering. Real gold is not a ceramic color and can wear with use. We do not recommend the use of this precious metal if you require lasting imprint permanence. We have most of the standard colors in stock. However, we cannot always match colors submitted by customers.

Please Note – Microwave gold and platinum do vary in appearance and brilliance from regular 22K gold and platinum. Note: We recommend hand washing all items with 22K gold or platinum decorations. DO NOT WASH in a dishwasher. Unless microwave resistant gold or platinum is used, these should not be place in a microwave oven.

Individual Mailings – Add the cost of the mailer from the price schedule for the item desired, plus $1.25 (G) per individual item along with UPS or Parcel Post charges. You must supply typed pressure sensitive labels, including zip codes arranged in numerical sequence, plus a master list. Each label must have a return address.

Late Payment Charge – After 30 days 11/2% interest per month (18% annual) is added to past due accounts and must be paid to re-establish credit for future orders.

Merchandise – Shipped into our factories must be prepaid and shipped to your name c/o our factories or it will be refused.

Order Cancellation – Charges incurred prior to cancellation of an order will be invoiced. Minimum charge of $25.00 (G).

Overruns and underruns – We may overrun or underrun 5% of the total order. Cancellation charges depend on the status of the order at the time of cancellation.

Personalizations – Individual names, individual proper nouns or sayings can be applied and fired directly on most items in our full line catalog. Typestyles are limited to Helvetica 67, Cooper and Brush Script. Minimum quantity is 50 personalizations. A completed typed alphabetical list must be provided. If the desired ink color is not specified, the personalizations will be black. Ceramic color personalization is $2.45(G) per personalization, in addition to the regular catalog price of the item. 22K gold or platinum is $3.35 (G) per personalization. Set up charge is $45.00 (G) per set of 50 personalizations. The $45.00 (G) is also the minimum set up charge. Normal art and screen charges apply. Allow five to six weeks to fulfill personalization orders. A second line of personalization will require a quotation.

Proofs When Requested – Black and white proofs are available at $15.00 (G) or an acetate proof $30.00 (G) of your required artwork is available for your approval before production. The proof approval form sent with the proof must be signed and returned before production of your order begins. Allow a minimum of 2 weeks for preparation. We reserve the right to render a proof for any order. Delays to proof approvals may require a change in your scheduled ship dates.

Registration of Multiple Color Designs – Where it becomes necessary to register one color or more next to another, there is the possibility of misregistration amounting to approximately 1/16” in any direction, depending on the size and shape of the ware being decorated. This tolerance meets industry standards, and is considered acceptable. If we determine that a decal should be used to hold specific tolerances, our normal pricing will not apply.

We are not responsible for inability to fulfill orders due to acts of nature, strikes, or any other cause deemed reasonable.

Screen Wash Charge – Add $15.00 (G) per imprint color change.

Speculative Samples – Are available in $25.00 (X) per color, plus normal art and screen charges. On larger or complicated orders we reserve the right to issue a speculative sample at no charge for your approval prior to production.

Shipping Methods – All goods are shipped by motor freight, UPS or RPS, depending on destination and weight of shipment F.O.B. factory.

Telephone Orders – To improve service, phone orders may go into production prior to purchase order arriving at factory. When purchase order arrives, “confirming” must be indicated on purchase order or a duplication may occur. Factory can not be responsible should a duplicate shipment occur because “confirming” did not appear on the purchase order. Factory reserves the right to make judgments on all phone orders regarding questions on correctness of the order due to verbal phone communication. Phone orders must be correct as changes cannot be made after the order is processed.

Terms – Net 30 days. New accounts – send at least 3 current trade references and 1 bank reference, including addresses and phone numbers. Please allow 2 weeks for credit check. A check in advance on the first order may be enclosed to expedite shipping.

Trademark Usage – All copy or other material submitted by the customer for use by us in producing the items ordered therewith, will be accepted by us as being submitted in full compliance with all applicable laws regarding trademark, service mark, copyright, right of privacy, patent, or similar protection. The customer, by submitting such copy or other material, represents that the use thereof by us on the items ordered will not violate any such laws, and Modern China Co., Inc. hereby disclaims any and all liability for compliance with such laws in the use of the customer's copy or other material. The customer hereby agrees to hold us harmless to any damages cost and or expenses when they arise under all such laws as a consequence of our use of said copy or other material or the operations undertaken by this agreement.

Venue – Jurisdictions Agreement – As additional consideration for the completion of the customer order, the customer and Modern China Co., Inc. agree to submit themselves, their heirs, executors, trustees, fiduciaries, assigns and successors to the venue and jurisdiction of the several courts of Mahoning County, State of Ohio; and the laws of the State of Ohio shall apply to any cause or causes of action arising out of this transaction, including, but not limited to issues of credit, payment, product reliability, merchantability, quality or quantity pursuant to the Ohio rules of civil procedure, civil rule 3(A) and 3 (B) and civil rule 4.3(A).

computer generated art references. Please make sure to notify
the customer that we have a much better chance of reading files
in PC Format and may have trouble with MAC format files. We can
accept most formats of BITMAPS including but not limited to:
